Alice Hale (1865-1945) was the daughter of Alfred and Rachel Hadley Hale and the great-granddaughter of pioneer Quaker settlers Jacob and Martha Harvey Hale. In 1890 she married E. Marshall Renner from Clermont County and had two sons. The 1915 edition of the History of Clinton County (Brown p. 688) reports that their elder son had graduated in 1915 from Wilmington College, and that:

“Mr Renner owns two hundred and ninety-eight and one half acres of land in Adams Township, which is all in one tract. In 1910 he built a modern country home, one of the most beautiful to be found in all Clinton County. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ren- ner are members of the Friends Church at Wilmington and are regular attenders at Sunday School."
